This new English version of the half-hour film, "Proust + Vermeer," is a moving tribute to two great artistic geniuses--the 17th-century Dutch painter, Jan Vermeer, and the 20th-century French novelist, Marcel Proust.
It features all of the Dutch painter's known works and is illustrated by 28 beautiful passages from Proust's novel, "In Search of Lost Time." (It has been translated from the French into English by the filmmaker, who also does the voice-over narration.)
The film culminates in the low comedy and high drama of Bergotte's death admiring "the little patch of yellow wall" in Vermeer's "View of Delft."
